After fielding the question a few times (or at least more than once) it occurred to me to add a bit to the FAQ about pre-building, snap-building, snap-fitting, or whatever else you'd like to call putting an unpainted Gunpla together before disassembling it again to paint the parts, or alternately painting it somehow after it's assembled.

Although I know these approaches are common, I don't know why. Aside from some exceptional situations where partial pre-building is necessary before painting (such as when a seam must be filled with putty), it seems that pre-building a model is thoroughly unnecessary at best.

If anybody has any insight into these practices or the arguments for them, I'd certainly be curious to hear them in the comments… And then shoot them down in dramatic flames.
